The importance and challenges of the teaching of nursing theory in Uganda are discussed in this introduction to the column that follows it. Two assumptions are questioned, the first is that it is easier to teach nursing students in places like Uganda concrete theories rather than abstract ones, and the other is that a composite of theoretical perspectives in nursing is more practical than a unified theoretical framework for nurses and advanced practice nurses.
