El celador es una figura clave en los servicios de Psiquiatría ya que ayuda a que el paciente se maneje en un entorno tranquilo y ordenado. Hay que recordar que la figura del celador no estaba recogida en el estatuto Marco de 1971, ya que la atención psiquiátrica no era proporcionada en los centros que pertenecían a la red de salud pública. En el momento actual el celador en psiquiatría necesita desarrollar ciertas habilidades tales como empatía, conocimiento de la patología psiquiátrica, asertividad y capacidad para ayudar a realizar contención verbal o física de los pacientes psiquiátricos.
