Fe y razón conforman el engranaje propulsor para que, junto a la verdad, ciencia y coherencia, el profesional de enfermería vaya descubriendo horizontes desconocidos pero seguramente prósperos para la sociedad. Al respecto, Benedicto XVI basado en las sagradas escrituras, sostiene que buscar la verdad es un acto inherente a este profesional; y propio de su naturaleza al compartir el conocimiento con futuras generaciones a partir del método científico y la responsabilidad. Del mismo modo, la docencia caracterizaría una actividad holística fundamental para el profesional de enfermería, que de la mano con la investigación aseguran y garantizan un trato enfermero humanizado por excelencia para el sujeto de cuidado y su entorno en general, sin deslindarse del propio autocuidado. No cabe duda entonces que, para una labor profesional destacada, hace tanta falta ciencia como fe y espiritualidad; lo primero proporciona conocimiento basado en la evidencia, y lo demás, la capacidad de ejercer con plenitud y satisfacción.
Faith and reason make up the propulsive gear so that, together with truth, science and coherence, the nursing professional discovers unknown but surely prosperous horizons for society. In this regard, Benedict XVI, based on the sacred scriptures, maintains that seeking the truth is an inherent act of this professional; and proper of his nature to share knowledge with future generations from the scientific method and responsibility. In the same way, teaching would characterize a fundamental holistic activity for the nursing professional, which together with research ensures and guarantees a humanized nursing treatment par excellence for the subject of care and its environment in general, without excluding self-care. There is no doubt then that, for an outstanding professional work, science is as necessary as faith and spirituality; the first provides knowledge based on evidence, and the other, the ability to practice with fullness and satisfaction.
