  Una fractura de cadera es una ruptura de la región del fémur que se articula con la pelvis causado principalmente por un traumatismo, que, en el paciente anciano, es mayoritariamente la caída al suelo. El síntoma principal es el dolor intenso y la impotencia funcional.

  Una vez diagnosticada, debe valorarse al paciente de forma integral, ya que el tratamiento principal es quirúrgico, pero en muchos casos según el tipo de paciente se puede considerar el tratamiento conservador.

  La fractura de cadera es una condición médica significativa, cuya incidencia se incrementa notablemente a partir de los 60 años. Este problema no solo es preocupante por su alta frecuencia, sino también por la considerable morbimortalidad que conlleva y su impacto económico y social por lo que es necesario una investigación exhausta sobre esta condición con el objetivo de concienciar tanto a la población como a los profesionales sanitarios en cuanto a la importancia de tratar no solo la fractura en sí, sino también todos los aspectos relacionados.

  A hip fracture is a break in the region of the femur that articulates with the pelvis caused mainly by trauma, which, in the elderly patient, is mostly a fall to the ground. The main symptom is severe pain and functional impotence.

  Once diagnosed, the patient must be assessed comprehensively, as the main treatment is surgical, but in many cases, depending on the type of patient, conservative treatment can be considered.

  Hip fracture is an important medical problem, the incidence of which increases notably from the age of 60 onwards. This problem is worrying not only because of its high frequency, but also because of the considerable morbimortality it entails and its economic and social impact, which is why extensive research into this pathology is necessary to raise awareness among both the population and health professionals as to the importance of treating not only the fracture itself, but also all related aspects.
