La anestesia se define como un estado reversible, inducido por agentes que controlan la presión de la función del sistema nervioso central. Dicho estado de anestesia supone algunas alteraciones en la que la enfermería de anestesia presta sus cuidados, el profesional de enfermería es aquel que participa en el proceso anestésico durante todo el periodo perioperatorio, dicho periodo abarca todos los cuidados requeridos desde que se plantea la operación hasta el alta definitiva del paciente, por lo tanto, se trata pues de un área de la enfermería muy especializada, la cual está presente en el 80% de los países. No obstante, existe mucha diferencia formativa dependiendo de cada país y de cada universidad en el que se imparte dicha formación. En el territorio español la figura de la enfermera de la anestesia no está reconocida como especialidad, aunque se contempla que lo pueda estar en un futuro.

This anesthesia state involved some changes that anesthesia nursing provide care, a nurse is a person who participates in the anesthetic process during all the preoperative period, this period includes all the needed cares from the surgery plan to the definitely discharge, so, it is a very specialized nursing area, where it is present at the 80% of the countries. However, there is a training´s difference in the way of teaching, it depends on each country and university where this education was given. In Spain, the anesthesia nurse´s figure is not recognised as a specialty but, in the future, it can be recognised.
