El cáncer gastroesofágico supone el cuarto tumor en cuanto a incidencia y el segundo en cuanto a mortalidad a nivel mundial. En estos pacientes aparte de producirse una desnutrición secundaria al aumento de las necesidades metabólicas existe una dificultad para la alimentación secundaria a las alteraciones mecánicas o funcionales.
Por tanto, es fundamental realizar un cribado nutricional en el momento del diagnóstico y después de forma periódica hasta la curación.
Gastroesophageal cancer is the fourth most common tumor in terms of incidence and the second in terms of mortality worldwide. In these patients, malnutrition occurs not only due to increased metabolic demands but also because of difficulties in eating secondary to mechanical or functional alterations. Therefore, it is crucial to conduct nutritional screening at the time of diagnosis and periodically thereafter until recovery.
