La gangrena de Fournier se trata de una infección polimicrobiana que consiste en la necrosis extensa de las fascias y tejidos blandos perineales, genitales y perianales. Su importancia radica en su rápida instauración y avance por los tejidos, y la dificultad del diagnóstico, ya que los síntomas y signos externos en muchas ocasiones no reflejan la gravedad del cuadro. El tratamiento quirúrgico urgente es mandatorio y no se debe demorar por realizar pruebas de imagen, si bien en la mayoría de las ocasiones, éstas son las que orientan hacia esta patología y ayudan a valorar la extensión real de la enfermedad.
Fournier’s gangrene is a polymicrobial infection that consists of extensive necrosis of the perineal, genital and perianal fascia and soft tissues. Its importance lies in its rapid installation and advance through the tissues, and the difficulty of diagnosis, since the external symptoms and signs often do not reflect the severity of the condition. Urgent surgical treatment is mandatory and should not be delayed by performing imaging tests, although in most cases, these are the ones that guide towards this pathology and help assess the real extent of the disease.
