El actual incremento de enfermedades bucales es preocupante, a pesar de que, existen estrategias de prevención y promoción de salud bucal, esto resulta insuficiente para cubrir las necesidades de los grupos vulnerables, ya que, no es el odontólogo con el que tienen mayor relación en su atención de salud, sino con la enfermera. Por tanto, su conocimiento y actitud puede permitir prevenir, detectar y derivar oportunamente los problemas de salud oral.
Respecto al conocimiento y actitud de las enfermeras en salud oral, se sabe, que el conocimiento y la actitud son deficientes, en diferentes lugares del mundo, a pesar de que, durante su formación profesional reciben conocimientos acerca de estos temas. Asimismo, actualmente existe gran cantidad de evidencia científica relevante, de mucha utilidad para la labor de las enfermeras. Por consiguiente, requieren capacitación constante en temas de salud oral que le permita mejorar la calidad de atención del paciente en el consultorio de crecimiento y desarrollo1.
The current increase in oral diseases is worrying, although there are strategies for prevention and promotion of oral health, this is insufficient to cover the needs of vulnerable groups, since it is not the dentist with whom they have the closest relationship in their health care, but with the nurse. Therefore, their knowledge and attitude can allow them to prevent, detect and promptly refer to oral health problems.
Regarding the knowledge and attitude of nurses in pediatric oral health, it is known that knowledge and attitude are deficient in different places around the world, despite the fact that, during their professional training, they receive knowledge about these topics. Likewise, there is currently a large amount of relevant scientific evidence, very useful for the work of nurses. Consequently, they require constant training in oral health issues that allow them to improve the quality of patient care in the growth and development clinic.
