Las sondas nasogástricas (SNG) son dispositivos médicos que se utilizan para la alimentación enteral, el drenaje gastrointestinal, y la administración de medicamentos. Se insertan a través de la nariz, pasando por el esófago, hasta llegar al estómago. Existen diferentes tipos de sondas según el material, el diámetro y la longitud, adaptándose a las necesidades del paciente. La colocación correcta de la SNG es crucial para evitar complicaciones, que pueden incluir infecciones, perforación esofágica, y neumonía por aspiración. Este artículo revisa las indicaciones, técnicas de colocación, complicaciones, y cuidados de las SNG.
Nasogastric tubes (NGT) are medical devices used for enteral feeding, gastrointestinal drainage, and medication administration. They are inserted through the nose, passing through the esophagus, to reach the stomach. Different types of tubes vary in material, diameter, and length, adapting to patient needs. Proper placement of the NGT is crucial to avoid complications such as infections, esophageal perforation, and aspiration pneumonia. This article reviews the indications, placement techniques, complications, and care of NGTs.
