  Objetivo principal: Presentar la interpretación cultural que le dan los grupos humanos de Papúa Nueva Guinea y las Islas Trobriand a la pandemia de VIH/sida. Metodología: Revisión bibliográfica. Resultados principales: Existe rechazo a los preservativos. Entendimiento del VIH/sida como transgresión del tabú. El papel de la Iglesia es crucial para prevenir y tratar. Conclusión principal: Se debe de comprender la dimensión cultural de las relaciones sexuales para prevenir y tratar mejor el VIH/sida.

  Objective: To present the cultural interpretation of the HIV/AIDS pandemic by human groups in Papua New Guinea and the Trobriand Islands. Methods: Bibliographic review. Results: There is a rejection of condoms. Understanding of HIV/AIDS as a transgression of taboo. The role of the Church is crucial in prevention and treatment. Conclusions: The cultural dimension of sexual relations must be understood in order to better prevent and treat HIV/AIDS.
