Una urostomía es un tipo de ostomía que deriva la orina a un lugar diferente de la vejiga y la elimina al exterior por medio de un estoma. Existen múltiples etiologías que provocan su realización, la causa más común son los tumores de vejiga cuya prevalencia ha aumentado en los últimos años por el consumo de tabaco.
Enfermería tiene un papel primordial en la recuperación quirúrgica y en la educación para la salud de estos pacientes, fomentando el autocuidado para conseguir un paciente activo. También es importante que enfermería proporcione las estrategias necesarias para que el paciente aprenda a convivir con su nueva condición.
El objetivo de este trabajo es recalcar el papel que juega enfermería en mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes urostomizados, tratando la parte de cuidados, pero sin olvidarnos de la esfera psicosocial.
An urostomy drifts urine to a different place from the bladder and removes it out through a stoma. The most common etiology is bladder tumor whose prevalence is increasing in the last few years because of tabaco.
Nursing has a primary role in the surgical recovery and health education of these patients, promoting self- care to achieve an active patient. It is also important that nursing provides the strategies for the patient to learn to live with her new condition.
The objective of this work is to emphasize the role that nursing plays in improving the quality of life of urostomized patients, addressing the care part; but without forgetting the psychosocial sphere.
