La Organización Mundial de la Salud estima que cada año hay 1,5 millones de nuevos casos de hepatitis A, estrechamente asociados a la falta de agua salubre, saneamiento deficiente y una mala higiene personal o mediante contacto estrecho; y que más de 2 millones de personas han sido expuestas al virus de la hepatitis B, que conlleva un alto riesgo de mortalidad y que puede dar tanto un cuadro agudo como una hepatopatía crónica. Sin la presencia de tratamientos específicos para dichas hepatitis, éste se centrará en mantener el bienestar y el equilibrio nutricional.
