Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder of genetic origin that affects 7% of children. The main symptoms are difficulties in self-control, attention and emotional regulation. These alterations usually occur before the age of 12 and have a great impact on the child’s occupational performance. In addition to a lack of autonomy, social skills, and poor academic performance, ADHD leads the child to have low self-esteem. For this reason, it is important to intervene from occupational therapy, addressing those occupations in which the child has more difficulty performing, generalizing the treatment to their usual environments. OBJECTIVE: To know the different forms of treatment from occupational therapy for ADHD, as well as its scientific evidence. METHODOLOGY: Information on the treatment of ADHD has been sought in official pages at a national and international level, as well as a bibliographic search of databases of the last 5 years. RESULTS: there are different methodologies with which to address ADHD from occupational therapy such as psychomotricity, which helps to exercise greater body control and channel emotions. The Montessori method is of great help in the field of learning concepts, as well as Sensory Integration, which helps the child or adolescent to better focus their attention. The intervention based on mindfulness and training in social skills along with pharmacological treatment have also shown to give very good results, in addition to equine therapy and the use of virtual reality. CONCLUSION: an occupational therapy approach is very important in the interdisciplinary treatment of ADHD, but there are very few research studies about which method is the best, as well as a lack of occupational therapy professionals working in educational centers in Spain.
