It is important to note that the hospital emergency department is one of the few hospital services that offers continuous care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and no appointment is required to access and be seen in this service.
The emergency department is divided into the following areas: admission, triage, waiting room, outpatient, general boxes, trauma boxes, isolation, observation and vital care rooms, and an intermediate respiratory care unit that was set up in response to the COVID-19 health emergency.
The TCAE have general functions in all these areas and then have more specific functions depending on the emergency area they are working on that day. Some such general functions include attending to the patient in everything they need (cleaning, changing nappies, or feeding), restocking storage areas, restocking linen, checking and restocking treatment trolleys, etc.
More specific functions, depending on the corresponding location, could be; preparing and helping to apply plaster casts, preparing sterile instruments for sterilisation, preparing and helping with bladder catheterisation equipment, nasogastric catheterisation, intubation, patient mobilization, etc.
