La conservación, cuidado y protección de la piel de los recién nacidos es un aspecto muy importante, la piel es la barrera frente a infecciones, protege los órganos internos, regula la temperatura.
Los cuidados de la piel en recién nacidos recomiendan a término realizar baño de inmersión después de tres días del nacimiento y si el bebe tiene una temperatura superior a 36’5º C ,debemos proteger la vérnix caseosa porque tiene propiedades aislantes, hidratantes, antioxidantes y antimicrobianas para limpiar los restos de meconio y sangre de la cabeza, se retira con agua templada y una compresa.
El baño es una medida de higiene, para mantener la piel limpia y prevenir la infección del recién nacido, en la bañera o en la incubadora, evitando los cambios bruscos y manteniendo la temperatura estable.
En el baño de inmersión hay controversia con la temperatura del agua, unos recomiendan debe estar entre 37 y36’5º C y otras opiniones entre 34 y 36º C, se realiza con una esponja sin jabón o con poco el pH de 5,5 y no dure más de 5 minutos. No se debe aplicar productos emolientes y perfumados en la piel del bebe porque la pueden irritar.
El baño a los recién nacidos, les recuerda el vientre materno y les ayuda a acostumbrarse a su nueva vida en el exterior.
