La demencia vascular es el segundo tipo de demencia más habitual tras el Alzheimer, representando el 15,8 % de las demencias. Se evidencia una afectación a nivel cognitivo, emocional, conductual, que afectan en la vida diaria de los pacientes. Es fundamental la prevención primaria, para evitar accidentes cerebrovasculares, la prevención secundaria para diagnósticar con prontitud y evitar al máximo los daños y la prevención terciaria para evitar complicaciones y otros inconvenientes de la enfermedad. Por todo ello, es fundamental conocer bien esta patología y emplear los planes de cuidados en la atención enfermera, con el fin de proporcionar la mejor respuesta posible, evitar su progresión y, sobre todo, mantener la mejor calidad de vida del paciente.
Vascular dementia is the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer’s desease, accounting for 15,8% of dementias. Evidence of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral impairment is evident, affecting the daily life of patients. Primary prevention is essential to avoid strokes, secondary prevention to diagnose promptly and avoid damage as much as possible, and tertiary prevention to avoid complications and other inconveniences of the disease. Therefore, it is essential to know this pathology well and to use the care plans in nursing care, in order to provide the best possible response, prevent its progression and, above all, maintain the best quality of life for the patient.
