El papel de la enfermera en el cumplimiento del derecho de intimidad es sumamente importante, ya que la enfermera al cuidar de las personas debe promover el respeto a los derechos humanos. Se convierte en una exigencia ética por parte de los profesionales, pero se traduce también en una obligación legal.
El objetivo es informar y educar tanto a profesionales como a pacientes, de cuáles son sus deberes y derechos, y de qué forma deben cumplirse y respetarse estos. Acciones tan simples como llamar a una puerta antes de entrar, o cerrarlas después de salir de una habitación, son claros ejemplos de cómo no se respetan los derechos del paciente.
