La Enfermedad de Crohn y la Colitis Ulcerosa suelen englobarse bajo la denominación de Enfermedad Inflamatoria Intestinal. Los mecanismos etiopatogénicos aún no son del todo bien conocidos, pero sí una de sus características principales, la inflamación. Desde el inicio de la Enfermedad Inflamatoria Intestinal se ha propugnado el control inflamatorio como uno de los pilares del tratamiento con el empleo de variados medicamentos. Esta serie de artículos pretende abordar la evolución de la terapéutica de la Enfermedad Inflamatoria Intestinal, sin pretender ser un manual de tratamiento. En esta primera aproximación se recorre el uso de la Terapia de Pequeñas Moléculas siguiendo el esquema de tratamientos previos vs nuevos, haciendo un recorrido desde los primeros fármacos empleados hasta los más novedosos.

The etiopathogenic mechanisms are not yet fully known, but one of their main characteristics, inflammation, is. Since the beginning of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, inflammatory control has been advocated as one of the pillars of treatment with the use of various drugs. This series of articles aims to address the evolution of the therapeutics of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, without pretending to be a treatment manual. In this first approach, the use of Small Molecule Therapy is reviewed following the scheme of previous vs. new treatments, making a journey from the first drugs used to the newest ones.
