Uno de los motivos de consulta médica más frecuentes son las infecciones del tracto urinario. Éstas son causadas por microorganismos que ascienden desde la uretra hacia la vejiga provocando síntomas como disuria, dolor suprapúbico, hematuria, fiebre y/o tenesmo. Si bien es cierto que el diagnóstico puede realizarse simplemente con la anamnesis, numerosas guías señalan que para realizar un tratamiento adecuado es imprescindible la realización de un urocultivo que aísle al microorganismo responsable, evitando el desarrollo de cepas resistentes.
El presente trabajo expone el caso clínico de un hombre de 67 años con incontinencia urinaria que acude a Urgencias por presentar hematuria y pico febril.
One of the most frequent reasons for medical consultation are urinary tract infections. These are caused by microorganisms that ascend from the urethra to the bladder causing symptoms such as dysuria, suprapubic pain, hematuria, fever and/or tenesmus. Although it is true that the diagnosis can be made simply by anamnesis, numerous guidelines point out that for adequate treatment it is essential to perform a urine culture to isolate the microorganism responsible, avoiding the development of resistant strains.
This paper presents a clinical case of a 67-year-old man with urinary incontinence who came to the emergency department with hematuria and febrile peak.
