Este relato narra la experiencia de un hombre que nos explica su proceso de enfermedad, en concreto se trata de una pancreatitis aguda necrotizante, desde el primer signo desencadenante hasta su total recuperación, y la manera en que se enfrentaron al problema su familia y él, ya que todo este proceso fue una experiencia totalmente nueva para todos ellos.
Rodrigo, pseudónimo de nuestro protagonista, hará referencia a la incertidumbre que sufrió en aquel tiempo debido a la ambigüedad del cuadro, ya que los signos y síntomas también hacían pensar en cáncer de páncreas. Hablará del miedo a lo desconocido, ya que nunca había estado ingresado en ningún hospital, de la impotencia ante la falta de respuestas por parte de algún facultativo. Rodrigo no se hacía a la idea de pasar a ser dependiente de otras personas de la noche al día.
