Objective: The objective of the study was to analyze the profile of the patients who have received treatment with Human Prothrombin Complex Concentrate (CCP) in critical bleeding in two Spanish hospitals.
Method: Retrospective, analytical, observational multicenter study carried out between January 2012 and December 2018.
Variable analyzed: demographic data, indication, trademark and PCC dose, anticoagulant treatment, antiplatelet treatment, concomitant administration of vitamin K, prescribing service, type of bleeding.
Statistical analysis was performed using Jamovi version 1.2.
Results: 132 patients with a diagnosis of critical bleeding were included, 51 (38.6%) of the patients had a diagnosis of internal and / or non-visible bleeding with a median age of 64 years (IQR: 52-81), 39 patients had intracranial bleeding with a median age of 81 years (IQR: 76-85), 32 patients had a diagnosis of gastrointestinal bleeding with a median age of 78 years (IQR: 74-82) years and 10 patients had a diagnosis of external and / or visible bleeding with a median age of 68 years (IQR: 57-77) .The median age of patients with critical bleeding who were anticoagulated was 80 years (IQR: 76-85) years compared to the age of patients who did not receive anticoagulant treatment that was 55 years (IQR: 46-64) years.
Conclusions: In our study population, the profile of patients who have received treatment with PCC off-label in the context of critical bleeding has been mostly older patients, with the presence of intracranial bleeding and gastrointestinal bleeding being more frequent. Most of the patients were anticoagulated with anti-vitamin K drugs.
