OBJECTIVE: The objective was to design and implement a specific weekly management tool to optimize and improve the safety and management of vaccine stocks against COVID-19 in a health center.
METHOD: The weekly vaccines supply circuits to the Health Center Pharmacy Service and the patient appointment circuits were reviewed.
After evaluating various possibilities, the Google Calendar® tool was chosen.
RESULTS: Each of the consecutive vaccination weeks was listed within the Google Calendar® tool. On each day, the number of doses mentioned was entered according to whether it corresponded to first or second doses and according to the vaccine (Comirnaty, from Pfizer-BioNTech (PF); Moderna’s vaccine (MOD); Vaxzevria, AstraZeneca (AZ) or Janssen (J) vaccine).
4 variables were created for each of the vaccines: PF, MOD, AZ and J. At the beginning of each of the weeks, when the vaccines were received in the Pharmacy Service, the units of the Service’s stock were included in these variables of Pharmacy each week. Image 1 Since the implementation of the specific management tool, more than 5,000 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 have been managed.
CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of this tool in the management of doses and stocks of vaccines against COVID-19 in the health center has made it possible to improve stock management, implement communication between all the agents involved in the vaccination process and improve forecasts regarding the need for vaccine vials.
