The reservoir is an effective way to access a central venous line in patients who need to receive intravenous treatment for a long period of time, or aggressive treatments for venous integrity.
Its insertion is performed by vascular radiological intervention, so the patient must be familiar with the procedure, but subsequently must also know how to use and care for it.
As it is a device that has to be implanted, it generates uncertainty and fears in the patient about body image, possible infections and the presence of pain during the puncture procedure, which can be resolved by means of adequate education on the part of the nursing staff.
