    Resumen Colaborar con la cuidadora principal en los cuidados de un paciente en coma supone, en algunos casos, estar sometida a una gran sobrecarga física y emocional. Muchas cuidadoras familiares se ven desbordadas por la situación, y sufren la falta de apoyos socio-sanitarios precisos que le ayuden a desarrollar su papel sin deterioro de su propia salud y calidad de vida. Asumir esta responsabilidad conlleva el riesgo de olvidar las necesidades propias, y convertirse a su vez en paciente.

    Este relato biográfico tiene como objetivo explorar qué siente y piensa una cuidadora familiar ante la enfermedad de su hermano. La evolución de éste hacia un coma irreversible ha hecho que el pesimismo, la fatalidad, y la desesperanza se apoderen de ella. Entre la cuidadora principal y ella se crea un fuerte vínculo afectivo. Su implicación en los cuidados la lleva a organizar al resto de familiares para que colaboren en los mismos.

    Abstract (The family caregiver's experiences caring a patient with irreversible coma) Collaborating with the primary caregiver in caring for a comatose patient is, in some case, be under great physical and emotional overload. Many informal carers are being overwhelmed by the situation, and do not always have the required social-sanitary support to develop their role without deterioration of their own health and life quality.

    Assuming the responsibility of being an informal caregiver of a patient in a coma carries the risk of forgetting the own needs, and turning into a patient.

    This biographical story is intended to explore what an informal caregiver feels and thinks about her brother's disease. The evolution of this one towards an irreversible coma has done that pessimism, fatality, and hopelessness get hold of her.

    Between the principal caregiver and herself a strong affective link is created. Her implication in the cares takes her to organize the rest of the relatives in order to collaborate with these attentions.
