How would you like to be treated at the end of your life if you could not decide for yourself? Thanks to the legalization of the advance living will document, capable adults can freely draw up a health plan with written instructions on their wishes and values for when the final moment of their life arrives. Dying with dignity and being able to plan that end if the case should come, constitutes an essential right of the human being. Living wills are born as a further expression of the patient's autonomy.
Following the approval of Organic Law 3/2021, of March 24, regulating euthanasia (1), in Annex II of the advance living will document, in the final considerations section this can be added, adding this point one more grain of sand to the "right to die with dignity", the patient exercising his autonomy and respecting his freedom.
This qualitative, eidetic phenomenological study will explore the perceptions and motivations for carrying out the registration of the advance living will document in caregivers of patients with dementia.
The knowledge and importance of the document, the motivation for registering it, the social/cultural conflict and the values and beliefs about Euthanasia will be investigated.
The study will be carried out in the Málaga-Guadalhorce district, in the period between September 2025 and February 2027, through semi-structured interviews and qualitative analysis.
To carry out the study, the case management nurses of the hospital, registrars of the advance living will document and who undertake the realization of workshops for caregivers of patients with dementia, will be counted on. Through these workshops, these professionals will recruit and select the participants.
