A la familia se le atribuye la responsabilidad de reproducción y conservación de la raza humana, y se le considera como la primer célula de formación que tiene el ser humano, donde recibe los principios y valores para ser un buen ciudadano, pero también es cierto que derivado a las distintas condiciones de desarrollo, estos valores y buenas costumbres se ven afectadas, pues el medio particular en donde se da el crecimiento de cada una de ellas tiende a ser un factor de impulso o de limitación que afecta la calidad de vida y la salud de cada individuo, factores como lo es el área geográfica, la actividad económica, y por supuesto el ámbito político juegan un papel importante y determinante para la formación de los ciudadanos, de igual manera marca el crecimiento de la sociedad y la salud colectiva.
En nuestro país se está llevando a cabo el fortalecimiento del sistema de salud en sus tres niveles, con un especial enfoque a la Atención Primaria a la Salud, y a pesar de que el modelo de atención tiene algunas innovaciones, una modificación al modelo de atención de enfermería como integrar la atención completa a la familia con modelos específicos podría tener cambios en los resultados de salud, ya que se atenderían posibles causalidades que podrían pasarse por alto a brindar atención al individualizada a como se realiza actualmente en las consultas de primer nivel.
