Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is a condition in which gastric contents ascend to the larynx and pharynx, causing irritation and inflammation that significantly affect voice quality. This article reviews the effects of LPR on voice, including prevalent symptoms such as dysphonia, hoarseness, and vocal fatigue. Through a systematic literature review, the pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnostic methods—such as the Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and objective acoustic assessments—and treatment options, including pharmacological, behavioral, and dietary interventions, are analyzed. Results indicate significant improvements in both subjective parameters (e.g., Voice Handicap Index) and objective measures (e.g., jitter, shimmer) following treatment. It is concluded that LPR negatively impacts vocal function, but accurate diagnosis and a multidisciplinary therapeutic approach can restore voice quality and prevent permanent damage.
