We present the case of a 55-year-old man diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and a history of hypertension and chronic gastritis. He attended consultation due to persistent symptoms of excessive worry, muscle tension, insomnia, and palpitations, which had worsened over the last six months. Despite initiating pharmacological treatment with anxiolytics and cognitive-behavioral therapy, he showed poor adherence to the therapeutic regimen, repeatedly abandoning consultations and self-medicating intermittently. Lack of continuity in treatment favored symptom exacerbation, with significant impact on his work and family life. A multidisciplinary approach, including psychiatric intervention, nursing-led health education, family psychoeducation, and close follow-up, promoted gradual improvement and treatment adherence restoration. This case highlights the importance of identifying and addressing factors influencing therapeutic adherence in patients with anxiety disorders and medical comorbidities.
