El presente artículo analizala presencia, funciones y desafíos del Trabajo Social Sanitario (TSS) en unidades clínicas especializadas de hospitales de tercer nivel en Barcelona.
Mediante una metodología mixta, combinando la reflexión cualitativa y el análisis cuantitativo de un cuestionario aplicado a jefaturas de trabajo social sanitario en cinco hospitales, se identifican los principales factores que condicionan su integración en las unidades de alta complejidad. Los resultados revelan que, aunque el trabajo social sanitario está presente y reconocido en todas las instituciones estudiadas, su integración formal y homogénea sigue siendo desigual. Se destacan tanto las barreras estructurales y organizativas como las oportunidades de especialización y liderazgo del trabajo social sanitario en la incorporación de la perspectiva social en la atención sanitaria. El artículo concluye subrayando la necesidad de fortalecer la formación, el reconocimiento institucional y los modelos de integración para consolidar un enfoque biopsicosocial, equitativo y humanizado.
The present article analyses the presence, functions, and challenges of Health Social Work (HSW) within specialized clinical units of tertiary-level hospitals in Barcelona. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative reflection with quant¡tative analysis of a questionnaire administered to heads of HSW departments across five hospitals, the study identifies the main factors influencing their integration within high-complexity clinical units.
The findings reveal that, although HSW is present and acknowledged in all the institutions studied, its formal and consistent integration remains uneven. Both structural and organizational barriers, as well as opporlunities for specialization and leadership, are highlighted, particularly regarding the incorporation of the social perspective into healthcare.
The article concludes by emphasizing the need to strengthen kaining, institutional recognition, and ¡ntegrat¡on models in order to consolidate a biopsychosocial, equitable, and humanized approach to healthcare.
