    Este artículo pretende ser una justificación histórica de la necesidad de existencia del Comité de ética Asistencial (C.E.A.) del Hospital de Sant Pau desde la época medieval hasta nuestros días. Al mismo tiempo, trasladar la importancia de la participación del Trabajador Social Sanitario dentro del Comité. Éste aporta una visión holística del usuario, de la familia y de los diferentes ecosistemas que interactúan durante la deliberación de los problemas éticos en el mismo plenario. La participación activa del rrabajador social sanitario aporta un valor a la deliberación; garantizando al mismo tiempo la conexión entre los aspectos clínico - sociales del usuario, actuando como rnediador en casos complejos y al mismo tiempo; como garante de la autodeterminación del usuario.

    La presencia histórica del trabajador Social sanitario dentro del C.E.A. facilita un empoderamiento progresivo del rol. ofreciendo una asistencia de mejor calidad al usuario y la familia y paralelamente; una mejor visibilidad de la profesión al resto de colectivos y dentro de la propia institución.

    This article aims to be a historical justification of the need for the existence of the Healthcare Ethics Committee (C.E.A.) of the Hospital de Sant Pau from medieval times to the present day. At the same time, to convey the importance of the participation of the Health social worker within the committee. lt provides a holistic vision of the user, the family and the different ecosystems that interact during the deliberation of ethical problems in the same plenary. The active participation of the Health social worker adds value to the deliberation; guaranteeing at the same time the connection between the ilinical-social aspects of the user, acting as a mediator in complex cases and at the same time; as a guarantor of the user's self-determination.

    The historical presence of the Health social worker within the C.E.A. fac¡litates a progressive empowerment of the role. Offering better quality assistance to the user and the family and in parallel; better visibility of the profession to the rest of the groups and within the institution itself.
