La malformación de Arnold-Chiari engloba un grupo de alteraciones estructurales complejas del sistema nervioso central, caracterizadas por el desplazamiento del tejido cerebeloso, en especial de las amígdalas, hacia el canal espinal. Este fenómeno suele provocar una amplia gama de síntomas neurológicos y constituye un desafío para el diagnóstico y manejo interdisciplinar. El artículo revisa las bases anatomopatológicas, la clasificación actualizada, la etiología, las particularidades diagnósticas modernas, opciones terapéuticas y, el papel esencial de enfermería en el cuidado integral del paciente afectado y su entorno.
Arnold-Chiari malformation encompasses a group of complex structural abnormalities of the central nervous system, characterized by the displacement of cerebellar tissue, particularly the tonsils, into the spinal canal. This phenomenon often causes a wide range of neurological symptoms and poses a challenge for diagnosis and interdisciplinary management. The article reviews the pathophysiological basis, updated classification, etiology, modern diagnostic features, therapeutic options, and the essential role of nursing in the comprehensive care of affected patients and their environment.
