Se presenta el caso clínico de un paciente de 38 años que ingresa de manera involuntaria en el hospital, tras agredir a su padre, ante sospecha de episodio psicótico agudo, para recibir el tratamiento oportuno y seguimiento médico psiquiátrico, finalmente diagnosticado de esquizofrenia.
Para asegurar su recuperación integral, el paciente atravesó de manera escalonada varias fases del tratamiento. La primera fue la fase hospitalaria aguda, donde se abordaron los síntomas más severos de la enfermedad mental y se estabilizaron. Posteriormente, se derivó hacia una fase subaguda, en la que se reforzó la atención médica, se trabajó en la prevención de recaídas y comenzó con la integración psicosocial y funcional, donde se brindaron intervenciones terapéuticas multidisciplinarias. Por último, el paciente, en la actualidad está recibiendo un seguimiento especializado en una Unidad de Salud Mental (UME), porque necesita un entorno terapéutico prolongado, y los profesionales necesitan seguir preparándole para su reintegración social y laboral.
The clinical case of a 38-year-old patient who is involuntarily admitted to the hospital after attacking his father, suspected of having an acute psychotic episode, is presented to receive timely treatment and psychiatric medical follow-up, finally diagnosed with schizophrenia.
To ensure his comprehensive recovery, the patient went through several phases of treatment in stages. The first was the acute hospital phase, where the most severe symptoms of mental illness were addressed and stabilized. Subsequently, it was diverted to a subacute phase, in which medical care was reinforced, work was done on relapse prevention and psychosocial and functional integration began, where multidisciplinary therapeutic interventions were provided. Finally, the patient is currently receiving specialized monitoring in a Mental Health Unit (UME), because he needs a prolonged therapeutic environment, and professionals need to continue preparing him for his social and work reintegration.
