Paciente de 54 años de edad, con signos clínicos de rotura fibrilar de la cabeza medial del gastrocnemio del miembro inferior derecho. El tratamiento y recomendaciones pautadas por el médico de familia del Servicio de Urgencias del hospital fueron inmovilización del miembro afecto mediante un vendaje compresivo durante 15 días y el tratamiento farmacológico adecuado. Al finalizar la consulta médica la paciente decidió concertar una cita con un fisioterapeuta con el fin de tener una segunda opinión. Gracias al abordaje fisioterápico de la lesión la paciente tuvo una recuperación mucho más rápida de lo prevista pudiendo mantener la funcionalidad desde el tercer día evitando de esta manera perdida muscular, rehabilitación posterior y absentismo aboral. Aunque el éxito en esta intervención fisioterapéutica fue evidente, se necesitan nuevos estudios que confirmen los beneficios de la fisioterapia desde la fase inflamatoria de la lesión, pero podría ser una forma novedosa y sencilla de tratar la rotura fibrilar de la cabeza medial del gastrocnemio.
Patient of 54 years of age, with clinical signs of fibrillar rupture of the medial head of the lower right gastrocnemius. The treatment and recommendations prescribed by the family doctor of the Emergency Department of the hospital were immobilization of the affected member by means of a compressive bandage for 15 days and the adequate pharmacological treatment. At the end of the medical consultation the patient decided to make an appointment with a physiotherapist in order to have a second opinion. Thanks to the physiotherapeutic approach of the injury, the patient had a much faster recovery than expected, being able to maintain the functionality from the third day, thus avoiding muscle loss, subsequent rehabilitation and abortion absenteeism. Although success in this physiotherapeutic intervention was evident, further studies are needed to confirm the benefits of physiotherapy from the inflammatory phase of the injury, but it could be a novel and simple way to treat the fibrillar rupture of the medial head of the gastrocnemius.
