FUNDAMENTOS // Las Unidades de Ictus (UI) son espacios intrahospitalarios especializados en nuestro sistema de Salud Pública. Requieren especialización profesional multidisciplinar y una exhaustiva evaluación y tratamiento de los pacientes. El objetivo de este trabajo es describir la presencia y utilidad de la labor que realizan los logopedas dentro de las UI españolas y definir cuáles son sus funciones profesionales.MÉTODOS // Se llevó a cabo una revisión bibliográfica narrativa no sistematizada sobre el papel profesional del logopeda en las UI en los últimos diez años. Se usaron los descriptores: Ictus AND Logopedia; Unidad de Ictus AND Logopedia. Se extrajeron un total de veintiocho trabajos. El método de síntesis y resumen de los datos fue integrativo-narrativo. Se compararon los resultados con guías internacionales de atención al ictus.RESULTADOS // Se da una gran importancia a la rehabilitación del lenguaje intensiva, de calidad y temprana en la fase aguda del ictus. Existe suficiente consenso respecto a la aportación profesional de los logopedas en la intervención en el lenguaje/ comunicación, y la disfagia neurogénica asociada. Sin embargo, es preciso definir y actualizar sus competencias a nivel nacional, que varían según los centros y las provincias heterogéneamente. CONCLUSIONES // En la mayoría de estudios consultados se tiene en cuenta la labor profesional de los logopedas en las UI, siendo su intervención favorable para la mejoría global del paciente. Se hace necesario referenciar los datos de su existencia en cada comunidad autónoma. En la comparativa internacional, estos profesionales ya se encuen-tran plenamente integrados en todas las UI.
BACKGROUND // Stroke Units (SU) are specialized in-hospital spaces in our Public Health system. They require multidisciplinary professional specialization and an exhaustive evaluation and treatment of patients. The aim of this study was to describe the presence and usefulness of the work performed by speech therapists in Spanish SU and to define their professional functions.METHODS // A non-systematized narrative literature review was carried out on the professional role of the speech therapist in the SUs in the last ten years. The descriptors used were: stroke AND speech therapy; stroke unit AND speech therapy. A total of twenty eight papers were extracted. The method of synthesis and summary of the data was integrative-narrative. The results were compared with international stroke care guidelines. RESULTS // Great importance is given to intensive, quality and early language rehabilitation in the acute phase of stroke. There is sufficient consensus regarding the profes-sional contribution of speech-language pathologists in language/communication intervention and associated neurogenic dysphagia. However, their competencies need to be defined and updated at the national level, which vary heterogeneously from center to center and province to province. CONCLUSIONS // Most of the studies consulted take into account the professional work of speech therapists in the SU, their intervention being favorable for the overall improvement of the patient. It is necessary to refer the data in each autonomous community in Spain. In the international comparison, these professionals are already fully integrated in all the SUs..
