La patología dual es la coexistencia de un trastorno mental y un trastorno por consumo de sustancias de una persona. Esta patología plantea problemas de diagnóstico y tratamiento. Esto es debido ya que los síntomas de ambos trastornos se entrelazan y por tanto dificultan su identificación y manejo adecuado en los diferentes dispositivos de salud mental. La atención fragmentada, el alto riesgo de recaídas y el estigma social que existe ante esta patología complican el proceso de recuperación. No sólo eso sino que muchos de los dispositivos que existen en el territorio español atienden un solo trastorno a la vez no existiendo así un abordaje integral de la persona. Todo ello conlleva no sólo a un estigma sino a una discriminación de las personas diagnosticadas con esta patología complicando así su recuperación e integración social. Un tratamiento integral de esta patología ayudaría a abordar a estas personas con terapias combinadas, apoyo psicosocial y medidas de rehabilitación especializadas.
Dual pathology is the coexistence of a mental disorder and a person’s substance use disorder. This pathology poses problems of diagnosis and treatment. This is because the symptoms of both disorders are intertwined and therefore make it difficult to identify and adequately manage them in different mental health services. Fragmented care, the high risk of relapse and the social stigma that exists regarding this pathology complicate the recovery process. Not only that, but many of the devices that exist in the Spanish territory treat a single disorder at a time, thus there is no comprehensive approach to the person. All of this leads not only to stigma but also to discrimination of people diagnosed with this pathology, thus complicating their recovery and social integration. A comprehensive treatment of this pathology would help address these people with combined therapies, psychosocial support and specialized rehabilitation measures.
