La eutanasia es un tema complejo y a su vez controvertido en el ámbito de la atención en salud, donde los estudiantes de enfermería forman parte, por lo que su formación y comprensión sobre este tema les permitirá en un futuro tomar de decisiones estando informados, respetando preferencias y creencias de los individuos, promoviendo un deceso digno y proporcionando un acompañamiento respetuoso y cercano. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo hacer una reflexión acerca de la importancia de incluir la eutanasia en el currículo de enfermería y analizar las diversas perspectivas que existen frente al tema en los países en donde ya se ha legislado y aprobado, revisando su regulación, considerando estudios al respecto y la normativa chilena, a fin de determinar la influencia que tiene en el ejercicio diario de la profesión el recibir educación sobre eutanasia.
Euthanasia is a complex and controversial issue in the field of health care, where nursing students are part of, so that their training and understanding of this issue will allow them in the future to make informed decisions, respecting preferences and beliefs of individuals, promoting a dignified death and providing a respectful and close accompaniment. The aim of this article is to reflect on the importance of including euthanasia in the nursing curriculum and to analyze the different perspectives on the subject in countries where it has already been legislated and approved, reviewing its regulation, considering studies on the subject and Chilean regulations, in order to determine the influence that being educated about euthanasia has on the daily practice of the profession.
