Introducción: La Diabetes Mellitus tipo II (DMII) es una patología crónica y multifactorial que afecta a más de 400 millones de personas a nivel mundial. En el Paraguay, el 10% de la población total, cerca de 700.000 personas, padecen diabetes, el 50% de los pacientes desconoce su patología. Objetivo: Determinar el perfil de los pacientes diabéticos tipo II internados de Clínica Médica del HOSPITAL REGIONAL - IPS CDE y su nivel de conocimiento sobre la enfermedad en el período de agosto a septiembre de 2023. Materiales y métodos: Estudio descriptivo, observacional, el muestreo fue no probabilístico y por conveniencia, en adultos mayores de 18 años, de ambos sexos con diagnóstico de diabetes mellitus tipo II (DMII) internados en el Hospital Regional IPS - CDE durante agosto-setiembre de 2023, aplicando el cuestionario DKQ-24 y los datos de las fichas medicas de los estudiados, los datos fueron analizados utilizando Microsoft® Excel. Resultados: Se analizaron 40 pacientes, de los cuales 55% tenía >65 años, distribución equitativa entre hombre y mujer. Las complicaciones de la DMII fueron motivo de internación en 35% de los estudiados y 20% por infecciones. El 50% de los pacientes con una Hb glicada superior al 8%. la gran mayoría de los pacientes representados por el 57% tiene conocimiento regular sobre el DMII y sus complicaciones. Conclusión: Los hallazgos resaltan la complejidad de la enfermedad que requiere de enfoques integrados entre profesionales de la salud, familiares y pacientes, para mejorar la calidad de vida de estos individuos.
Introduction: Type II Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic and multifactorial condition that affects more than 400 million people worldwide. In Paraguay, 10% of the total population, approximately 700,000 individuals, suffer from diabetes, and 50% of patients are unaware of their condition. Objective: To determine the profile of hospitalized type II diabetic patients at the Medical Clinic of HR – IPS CDE and their level of knowledge about the disease during the period from August to September 2023. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive, observational study with non-probabilistic and convenience sampling, involving adults over 18 years of age, of both sexes, diagnosed with Type II Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) who were hospitalized at the Regional Hospital IPS - CDE during August-September 2023. The DKQ-24 questionnaire was applied, and data from the medical records of the studied patients were analyzed using Microsoft® Excel. Results: A total of 40 patients were analyzed, of which 55% were over 65 years old, with an even distribution between men and women. Complications of T2DM were the reason for hospitalization in 35% of the studied patients and 20% due to infections. 50% of the patients had a hemoglobin A1c greater than 8%. The majority of patients, represented by 57%, had a regular understanding of T2DM and its complications. Conclusion:The findings highlight the complexity of the disease, which requires integrated approaches among healthcare professionals, families, and patients to improve the quality of life for these individuals.
