Se analiza el papel del oftalmólogo pediátrico en un caso de SBS con implicaciones legales.
Se describe la fisiopatología del síndrome, los mecanismos de lesión y las manifestaciones oftalmológicas características, como hemorragias retinianas en diferentes capas y estadios evolutivos. Además, se discute la responsabilidad médica y legal del oftalmólogo en la identificación, notificación y testificación en casos judicializados. Finalmente, se presenta un caso clínico real en el que un bebé de 6 meses fue evaluado por sospecha de SBS y el oftalmólogo fue citado a testificar un año después.
The role of the pediatric ophthalmologist in a case of SBS with legal implications is analyzed.
The pathophysiology of the syndrome, the mechanisms of injury, and the characteristic ophthalmologic manifestations, such as retinal hemorrhages in different layers and stages of development, are described. In addition, the medical and legal responsibility of the ophthalmologist in the identification, notification, and testimony in judicial cases is discussed. Finally, a real clinical case is presented in which a 6-month-old baby was evaluated for suspected SBS and the ophthalmologist was summoned to testify one year later.
