El cáncer de cérvix afecta al cuello del útero y es uno de los tipos de cáncer más frecuentes entre las mujeres, su principal causa es la infección por el virus del Papiloma Humano (VPH), un tipo de infección de transmisión sexual. Los serotipos de VPH con más riesgo de producir este tipo de cáncer son el 16 y el 18. El tratamiento para este tipo de cáncer es diferente según el estadio y si se quiere conservar la fertilidad. Si se detecta tarde o está muy extendido el tratamiento acabaría siendo paliativo.
Cervical cancer affects the cervix and is one of the most common cancers in women, mainly caused by infection with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection. The HPV serotypes most at risk for this type of cancer are 16 and 18. Treatment for this type of cancer differs depending on the stage and whether fertility is to be preserved. If it is detected late or is very widespread, treatment would end up being palliative.
