Las infecciones de transmisión sexual (ITS) son un problema mundial que va en aumento, entre las diferentes ITS está la tricomoniasis, producida por el protozoo Trichomonas vaginalis (TV). Una infección que afecta a ambos sexos, aunque de mayor forma entre las mujeres. En general es asintomático, sin embargo, puede haber síntomas como flujo anormal en color y olor o prurito entre otros. Hay diferentes formas de diagnóstico, siendo la más utilizada el cultivo. El mejor tratamiento es la prevención con el uso de preservativos, pero si no se consigue prevenir la solución es antibioterapia.
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a growing global problem, and among the different STIs is trichomoniasis, caused by the protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis (TV). It is an infection that affects both sexes, although it is more prevalent among women. It is generally asymptomatic, however there may be symptoms such as abnormal discharge in colour and odour or itching among others. There are different ways of diagnosis, the most commonly used being culture. The best treatment is prevention with the use of condoms, but if prevention is not possible, the solution is antibiotherapy.
