Las quemaduras son heridas producidas por agentes físicos o químicos, que alteran la estructura de la piel, dañando sus diferentes capas. Esta alteración no solo ocasiona problemas por la herida que genera; también produce una disrupción en el medio interno por la pérdida de electrolitos y líquidos que, sumado a la susceptibilidad de desarrollar infecciones por pérdida de la barrera protectora exterior, puede conllevar una gran morbimortalidad, incluso tiempo pasado del inicio de la lesión. Por ello es vital conocer los mecanismos lesivos y saber cómo actuar frente a cada uno de ellos y en los distintos estadios de la lesión para lograr una curación completa.
Burns are injuries caused by physical or chemical agents that alter the structure of the skin, damaging its various layers. This alteration not only causes problems due to the wound itself but also disrupts the internal environment through the loss of electrolytes and fluids. Additionally, the increased susceptibility to infections due to the loss of the outer protective barrier can lead to significant morbidity and mortality, even long after the injury occurs. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the mechanisms of injury and know how to respond to each type and at different stages of the injury to achieve complete healing.
