El test de aliento es un procedimiento que se usa para diagnosticar la presencia del Helicobacter pylori, bacteria que actúa en la mucosa gástrica produciendo, habitualmente, dolor, dispepsia, hinchazón, falta de apetito, etc. Esta prueba tiene una alta sensibilidad, alta especificidad y no es invasiva por lo que su uso es muy frecuente.
Se presenta el caso de una mujer joven, con síntomas gástricos que se pueden relacionar con la existencia de esta bacteria, por lo que su médico de familia deriva a la paciente a la consulta de enfermería para realizar el test de aliento y con ello, poder diagnosticar y pautar el tratamiento erradicador, si el resultado es positivo.
