La catarata se considera la principal causa de ceguera a nivel mundial, ya que afecta a millones de personas. Es por ello, que es importante conocer la fisiopatología de ella, así como su relación con el envejecimiento y su impacto en la calidad de vida de los pacientes. Existen diferentes tipos de cataratas, así como las diferentes manifestaciones clínicas, respectivamente. Las cuales, se observa sí según sus condiciones cumplen, o no, los criterios de intervención quirúrgica.
El tratamiento de elección para la cirugía de catarata es la famoemulsificación. Es por ello, que es importante destacar sus componentes, su procedimiento y sus ventajas y desventajas, así como los efectos secundarios y las recomendaciones postoperatorias.
Además, es importante destacar el papel del equipo de enfermería en el cuidado de los pacientes durante todo el proceso quirúrgico. Es decir, desde la preparación de la operación, hasta la atención post-operatoria.
