    A medida que se ha asumido la importancia de la participación de la familia en el cuidado del recién nacido hospitalizado, se ha cuestionado el diseño tradicional de sala abierta en las Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales frente a las unidades con boxes o habitaciones individuales, las cuales han demostrado que pueden tener un impacto positivo en el niño y su familia. Sin embargo, es necesario conocer las características de estas unidades y las implicaciones para el personal para poder realizar la transición a este diseño adecuadamente.

    As the importance of family involvement in the care of hospitalized newborns has been recognized, the traditional open ward design in Neonatal Intensive Care Units has been questioned in favor of units with individual rooms or boxes. These have shown to have a positive impact on the child and their family. However, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of these units and the implications for the staff to transition to this design properly.
