Se realiza una revisión de la evidencia científica respecto de la técnica de inserción del marcapasos, así como del funcionamiento de este dispositivo. Como resultado, se elaboran dos check-list, uno con el material para la implantación del mismo y otro con los cuidados de enfermería mientras permanezca el paciente con el dispositivo. Además, se dilucida si existe una indicación general sobre el sondaje vesical del paciente portador de marcapasos. Conclusión: La variabilidad observada en los cuidados del paciente con marcapasos así como sus posibles complicaciones reafirman la necesidad de una intervención de enfermería estandarizada y protocolizada que proporcione estabilidad clínica y hemodinámica. Enfermería debe poseer un conocimiento específico en todas las fases del proceso, tanto en la implantación como en los cuidados posteriores, así como ser competente en el manejo del marcapasos para prevenir precozmente complicaciones.
The aims of this dissertation have been to collect the scientific evidence which exists about the insertion technique and the operation of a pacemaker; and to elaborate two check lists: one to describe the material needed during the implantation and another one to display the nursing care for Temporary Transvenous Pacemaker (TTPM) patients. Furthermore, it has been intended to elucidate the general indications about bladder catheterization in patients with TTPM, as far as the consulted literature shows. Conclusion: The observed variability about the TTPM patient care, as well as its potential complications, show the need of a standard nursing-guided intervention, in order to achieve clinical and hemodynamic stability. The nursing staff must have specific knowledge in all phases of the process of using a TTPM, both in its implantation and subsequent care. Moreover, the nursing staff must be competent in the handling of a TTPM. This competence will result in the early detection, or the avoidance, of complications, as well as the rapid treatment and appropriate action when required.
