Considerando-se a predominância do sexo feminino na enfermagem mundial e o lento processo de inserção de estudantes do sexo masculino na carreira, no Brasil, a análise das vivências de estudantes, ao longo da História, pode trazer elementos importantes para pensar recrutamento e retenção desses estudantes. A profissionalização da enfermagem no Brasil iniciou-se em 1890, com a escola Profissional de Enfermeiros e Enfermeiras (EPEE), atual Escola de Enfermagem Alfredo Pinto-UNIRIO, onde eram admitidos alunos de ambos os sexos, a fim de atender o campo psiquiátrico [Fragmento de texto].
Considering the predominance of females in nursing worldwide and the slow process of insertion of male students into the career in Brazil, the analysis of the experiences of students, throughout History, can bring important elements to think about recruitment and retention of these students.
