Cytostatics are those substances that can both prevent and inhibit the neoplasia process by restricting the maturation and proliferation of malignant cells. They also act on rapidly proliferating tissues (intestine, skin, mucosa, etc).
These are substances with different chemical nature, used for treatment of neoplastic diseases. They can be used alone or combined with other techniques (radiotherapy, surgery, hormone therapy and immunotherapy).
Exposures occur in the preparation of medicines, in the handling and disposal of remains. At the same time, they must take care of the excretions of patients who receive cytostatic treatment.
For this reason, specific gloves must be used to avoid contact with substances and to be resistant to cytostatics.
