Ankle fractures are one of the main injuries suffered by this joint and are among the most common types of fractures. The treatment used depends on the stability of the fracture: in the unstable ones, a surgical intervention is indicated followed by an immobilization that will lead to a series of foreseeable consequences and susceptible to improvement with physiotherapy treatment.
The main objective is the presentation of a physiotherapy treatment plan after a surgical intervention of trimalleolar fracture-dislocation of the ankle, whose purpose is to recover the functionality of this joint as well as the autonomy and return to work of the patient.
This is an intrasubject study (n=1) AB type, in which an initial evaluation was carried out prior to applying the physiotherapy treatment, with an intermediate measurement at 3 weeks and a final one, in order to assess the effectiveness of the applied treatment.
A treatment plan was proposed and carried out for 9 weeks consisting in lymphatic drainage techniques, scar massage, manual therapy, muscle strengthening exercises, proprioception and cryotherapy mainly. The patient progressed favorably in all aspects initially assessed.
The physiotherapy treatment proved effective in improving the case without achieving a complete return to her activities of daily living and work.
