Recently, the popularity of intermittent fasting has increased, although Hippocrates was already one of the first defenders of fasting for medical purposes in his time, recommending it when suffering from a disease.
Currently there are several lines of scientific evidence that supports the benefits of its performance. These lines of evidence support the hypothesis that eating patterns that reduce or eliminate eating at night and subsequently prolong the overnight fast could lead to improvements in health.
It has been proven that it is a feeding protocol that not only serves to lose weight, but also acts in the regulation of metabolism, intestinal microbiome, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, hepatic steatosis and other pathologies.
With this bibliographic review I want to make known if intermittent fasting is a myth or reality and how it influences our health, as well as the risks that it could have if it is not done correctly, and the types of fasts that exist for each person to adapt according to your needs and your life.
